The Raggae Island
11 Juli 2016 | Belize, Caye Caulker
Caye Caulker is an extremely small island, only a kilometer long and 400m wide. We would only stay there 3 days.
The main attraction of the island is snorkling. So we booked a full day of snorkling. This is were I got really seasick. To top this, after a few hours I got this afwul sunburn on my back, so I decided to wear my T-shirt at all times.
Belize has got the second largest barrier reef in the world, the first is located off the coast of Australia. The Mesoamerican reef stretches all the way from Cancún to Hunduras.
We saw the most beautiful corals and got a glimpse of the marine life. We saw sea turtles, sting rays, several coloured fishes, including a Dory-fish (unfortunately I did not see any Marlin's or Nemo's). We swam with sharks (not the human-eating kind of sharks) and even saw a Manatee, which made the seasickness more than bearable!
The next day we didn't do anything, just walked about on the island, went to dinner, got some drinks, and went to bed early to take the first boat to Belize City the next morning. From there we took the bus to Flores, Guatemala.
